SaveNetwork of amazing high country forest service trails off Hwy 410 between the town of Greenwater and the border of Mt. Rainier National Park. This is the land of big trees and big rides. Plan on 2,500 to over 3,000 feet climbs to top out on any trail except the two lower elevation ones that parallel the White River and Hwy 410 (Skookum Flats and White River trails). Or just shuttle it all. Either way, once at the top, enjoy some of the best big mountain descents and mountain bike-accessible views in Washington.
Climbing access: For the Palisades, Ranger Creek and Deep Creek descents, most people climb either Ranger Creek trail or Corral Pass Rd (NF 7174). If going via Corral Pass, follow the Noble Knob and Dalles Ridge trails to the trailheads. Upper and Lower Suntop can be accessed by riding up the NF roads described below.
Shuttle access: Palisades, Ranger and Deep Creek can be shuttled either by NF 7200 to NF 7250 (this route has several forks and can be difficult to follow- go with someone who knows. Detailed instructions are in the Evergreenmtb.org trail wiki). Park at end of 7250, follow Dalles Ridge trail to top of Ranger Creek). Or if open, shuttle via Corral Pass Road (NF 7174). Upper Suntop can be shuttled by taking NF 7300, and then Left on NF 7315 for 5 miles to the Trailhead parking lot. Lower Suntop can be shuttled via NF 7160 for 7.1 miles (to the point where Upper Suntop ends at this road and Lower Suntop continues down the other side).
Parking: Available at most trailheads, including: Ranger Creek, Palisades exit, Lower Suntop exit, the South and North ends of Skookum Flats, and the tops of each shuttle route. These trailheads require a NW Forest Pass for parking. Not all lots have the ability to pay on location, so buy a pass online before you go.
Camping: You can camp around the Ranger Creek State Airport (most common for MTBers), or at the Silver Springs and Dalles Campgrounds.
