SaveAdams Farm in Walpole, MA consists of over 700 acres of town-owned conservation land supplemented by New England Forestry Foundation and Norfolk County Agricultural School land. It is managed by the town of Walpole and a well established friends group.
The riding here is relatively smooth, flowy and non-technical and great for beginners just getting into the woods or advanced riders that want to hammer. A loop on mostly singletrack will reward the rider 6 - 9 miles on relatively fast terrain. Reverse direction or hit some of the double track for even longer rides. Recently, Adam's Farm has hosted both US Cup mountain bike races as well as more than a few crossbike races.
Most of the trails at Adams Farm flow through the trees like a clever fox leading a pack of dogs to exhaustion. The singletrack trails rarely go straight for more than a few hundred feet before you're looping around a tree and heading back in the other direction. On group rides you'll often see your buddies coming back at you only a few yards away. What would be mass confusion is mitigated by a map. The main trails are marked out with color coded markers, while the minor trails have faint white dots sprayed on the trees. The Trailforks map displays a lot of trails as blue but one might argue they are green. Having the preferred trails as blue simply identifies them as the primary mountain biking trails which would be hard to find otherwise in a sea of green trials.
The adventurous rider can even connect Adam's Farm to the nearly adjoining Rocky Woods. From there, you can ride Noanet and Hale Reservation with unlimited potential for epic rides.
Except in March or April when the trails are closed to mountain bikes for mud season, Adam's Farm is a great place to ride year round. The town quickly takes care of blowdowns. It dries quickly, is super fast when the ground is frozen and clear of ice, and the doubletracks are great after a fresh snow. Expect to spend a lot of time exploring the trails at Adams Farm, and expect to have a lot of fun doing it.
