Late in 2015, riders in the Prince George area of Northern BC were treated to the opening of yet another spectacular trail built by the YGDR Build Crew and Ruckus Skis Boards and Bikes, along with the continued support of The Prince George Cycling Club. The Pidherny Recreation Site is dotted with many outstanding trails thanks to the dedication of both organizations. But their latest creation The Kitchen Sink and its wooden features take the game to a whole new level. Wood features are certainly not new to Pidherny, one just needs to take a trip down Papa Woods DH or New England Clam Chowder to see all the wooden magic. But the features found on the Kitchen Sink are a different kind of magic and would rival any feature found on The North Shore.

The clichè, “everything but the kitchen sink” stands true for this trail. From start to finish the trail is almost 1.5km long with 14 wood features, ranging from simple ladder bridges at river crossings to signature features like the 16-foot tall ladder bridge that begins with an “S” shaped entrance and a roller coaster exit. If being 16 feet off of the ground on 3 feet wide planks is not your thing, don’t fear. Each major feature has a ride around or an alternate feature that will spill you back out onto the trail just in time to meet back up with your fearless riding partners.

The wood creations may be the shock and awe of this trail, but what's between these features will not disappoint. The trail was designed with speed and flow in mind, small jumps and smooth bermed corners are the norm, lay off the brakes and hold on. The true adventure starts once you hit the forest section. It’s here where you’ll witness the true craftsmanship and attention to detail the YGDR Build Crew strove for. The over 150 hand ripped boards it took to make the high-speed ramp is just one of many examples of the crew's dedication to making this trail a worthy addition to anyone’s bucket list.

With ride areas like Otaway, Pidherny and Tabor Mountain now featuring 10 lift-assisted downhill trails, Prince George has firmly placed itself on the map as a mountain bike destination worthy of checking out.
