A lift kit (or suspension lift) is typically used to enhance a vehicle’s performance and prepare it for off-roading on rougher terrains. All lift kits carried by AllMoparParts are professionally constructed and made of high-quality materials. The most popular ones are between 2” and 5”, while the more extreme kits are preferred by more intrepid drivers.

Tips on How to Choose a Lift Kit

When choosing the best suspension lift for your vehicle, your primary concerns should be proper fitment and compatibility.

Fitment

Choosing the best lift kit size involves multiple considerations. These include:

  • Rim size

  • Tire size

  • Wheel offset or backspacing

  • Trimming your fenders (for larger rims)

  • Notching the frame

  • “High riser” or “tucked” look

If your truck has larger tires, you’d also want to consider the shocks you’ll use.

Compatibility

Lift kits only work on certain vehicles, so you’ll need to ensure that the kit you want will fit your truck. Comparing current car clearance and wheel diameter to a kit’s tire diameter, tire width, and rim offset can help you find the best lift kit for your trusty vehicle.

Truck Lift Kits: Repair or Replace?

A truck lift kit requires some servicing after installation. Typically, you’ll need to check if all bolts and nuts on your kit are tight after the first 100 miles and then every 1,000 miles. You’d also want to have a qualified professional mechanic inspect your steering, suspension, and driveline systems, as well as wheel alignment, every 3,000 miles.

If the extra modifications to your lift kit are giving you a headache, fixing these issues is the best possible step you can take. Otherwise, you’ll need expert advice from a mechanic on recurring issues with your lift kit.

How to Install a Lift Kit

  • With your vehicle in neutral, raise its front with a jack and secure a jack stand beneath each frame rail, behind the lower link arms.

  • Disconnect the upper end of the stabilizer bar links from the stabilizer bar. Leave the lower ends attached to the lower control arm.

  • Loosen the lower arm control bolts, then remove the lower strut bolt, the three upper strut assembly bolts, and the strut itself.

  • Install the new strut assembly using the factory hardware, then tighten the three upper strut bolts. Repeat step 3 on the opposite side.

  • Tighten your tire’s lug nuts, then lower your vehicle to the floor.

  • Tighten the lower control arm, lower strut, and upper control arm bolts.

  • Raise your vehicle back onto the jack stands and secure as per step 1.

  • Cycle steering lock-to-lock and check all components for proper operation and clearances.

  • Lower the vehicle to the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions about Mopar Lift Kits

Here are the frequently asked questions about Lift Kits.

What’s the difference between lift kits & leveling kits?

Lift kits offer more truck height, better off-road performance, and more ground clearance. Plus, they can help you add bigger tires by maintaining your truck’s steering and ride quality. Leveling kits help improve your vehicle’s balance and provide a little more ground clearance. They help retain your ride quality, too.

Which components make up a typical truck lift kit?

Lift kits often have the following parts or components:

  • Adjustable control arms

  • Bushings

  • Shocks

  • Track bars

  • Sway bar links

  • Coil springs

But do keep in mind that suspension lift kits can include different components depending on your vehicle. Some kits have hard-to-find parts, while others have a variety of components.

Can a lift kit keep you safe while driving?

Yes. Equipping your truck with a lift kit helps you see the road and any possible obstacles better. But if you really want to enjoy safer rides on a lifted vehicle, making extra modifications to your car is a must. Looking at kit specifications and safety recommendations is important as well.
